Markets · CanadaWhat does it cost to launch a supplement brand in Canada?
On the manufacturing side, four things set the cost of a launch: the first-run quantity, the formula route, the pack and the order size. PharmaEurope quotes all four for your product within 24 hours, Monday to Friday, with a price for your quantity and for a larger one. That quote covers the whole project, run in-house at PharmaEurope's certified EU plant: formula and sample, label and packaging design, printing, manufacturing, filling, quality control, export documents and shipping. One company answers for the finished product. The entry route is white label on a ready-made formula from 100 units, with no development cost. Your own formula starts from 500 bottles for capsules and tablets, and powders and sachets from 300 kg of finished blend. Production takes from 2 weeks on a ready-made formula and from 4 weeks on your own. PharmaEurope already ships to Canada.

How much does it cost to start a supplement brand in Canada?
The manufacturing cost follows four choices: how many units you start with, whether the formula is ready-made or your own, which pack you choose, and how large the order is. PharmaEurope prices each product against those four for your quantity. A white label start from 100 units keeps the first commitment small, because the formula, the excipients and the process already exist and there is nothing to develop. The rest of a Canadian launch sits with your brand and its Canadian partners: the product licence, the importer, the customs broker, duty and freight after the handover point.
What does the PharmaEurope quote include?
The PharmaEurope quote covers the product from formula to finished, labelled pack, with every service done at the same plant and priced in one quote. That includes:
- the formula and sample (ready-made, adjusted for you, or developed from your brief);
- label and packaging design, checked before print;
- printing of labels, cartons and sachets at the plant;
- manufacturing and filling;
- quality control of every batch before release;
- export documents for your importer.
Every batch ships with a specification and a Certificate of Analysis. Raw material documentation, an allergen statement and a shelf-life statement are provided with the order or on request, and copies of the ISO 22000, GMP and HACCP site certificates come on request. Nothing is sent to a separate packer or printer, so one company answers for the finished product. The full list is on the services page.
What moves the unit price of a private label supplement?
The active ingredient moves the unit price first. A standardised botanical extract and a mineral salt at the same dose are not comparable costs. Next comes the capsule count per pack (30, 60, 90 or 120 on ready-made formulas), then the shell, where delayed release costs more than HPMC and HPMC more than gelatine. Then the pack: a blister with a printed carton costs more per unit than a bottle with a label. The order size moves all of these, which is why PharmaEurope quotes 500 bottles and 5,000 bottles separately.
What raises the minimum order, and what does not?
Four things raise a first run: a custom formula, a rare raw material, custom packaging and several flavours at once. A formula that has to be developed and trialled carries a larger first run than one already in production. Some raw materials are bought in supplier minimums. A printed carton or a custom colour brings its supplier's minimum on top of PharmaEurope's. Each flavour or strength is its own production run. Two things leave the minimum where it is: a simple formula does not lower it, and a larger order does not shorten production. What a larger order changes is the unit price.
Is a white label start lower in cost than your own formula?
Yes, on development. White label carries no development cost, starts from 100 units and is produced from 2 weeks. Your own formula adds raw material sourcing, formulation and a sample, starts from 500 bottles, and takes from 4 weeks of production after approval. The trade-off is a shared composition. A ready-made formula stays in PharmaEurope's shared catalogue, so another brand may sell the same composition, while the terms for a formula developed for you are set in your contract. Adjusting a catalogue formula means a new trial and new documentation, so it is quoted against your quantity.
Which launch costs sit outside the manufacturer's quote for Canada?
Freight after the handover point, Canadian duty and taxes, the importer and broker, and the product licence sit with your brand and its Canadian partners. PharmaEurope hands over EXW at the plant by default and quotes FCA or DAP on request, so you can compare that freight against your own forwarder's rate. The importer of record declares the goods and pays duties and taxes. As an example, CBSA Customs Tariff 2026 tariff item 2106.90.99 carries a most-favoured-nation rate of 10.5% and is Free at the CETA-EU rate for goods that meet the CETA rules of origin. Your broker confirms the line. CETA requires an origin statement on the invoice, and you discuss it with PharmaEurope at the quote. Your brand holds the product licence and its NPN. The details are on the Canada market page.
Why do Canadian brands get their launch quote from PharmaEurope?
PharmaEurope gives a Canadian brand a small, documented start, runs the whole project in-house from idea to finished pack, and already ships to Canada.
- One company, one quote. PharmaEurope covers formula and sample, label and packaging design, printing, manufacturing, filling, quality control, export documents and shipping, all at the same plant, so one company answers for the finished product. See all services.
- Test before you stock up. White label from 100 units, your own formula from 500 bottles, powders and sachets from 300 kg of finished blend.
- A certified plant in the European Union. ISO 22000:2018, GMP to the Food Supplements Europe guide and HACCP under Regulation (EC) 852/2004, with a scope covering tablets, capsules and powders. The plant is also registered with the US FDA as a food facility.
- An English and French label printed at the plant.
- Every batch documented. Each batch gets a specification and a Certificate of Analysis, with a 24-month standard shelf life.
- More than 25 years of manufacturing across the group, 70+ specialists and export to 42 countries.
- Two prices in one quote. Your quantity and a larger one, within 24 hours, Monday to Friday.
“Ordering a first batch from a small workshop is a real risk for a brand: quality is not guaranteed from batch to batch, and there is no capacity to grow when the product takes off. We went the other way and invested in new, flexible production lines, where switching to the next product does not cost hours of changeover and cleaning — the losses that make older plants ask for thousands of units. That is why a first run of a ready-made formula can start from 100 units, and the same line scales up when the product sells.”
What do I send to get a quote for Canada?
Send five lines: the format, the active and its dose, the quantity for the first run, the pack you have in mind, and Canada as your market. That is enough for PharmaEurope to quote a real number rather than a range.
Questions about the cost of a supplement launch in Canada
How much does it cost to start a supplement brand?
PharmaEurope quotes every product for its quantity. Send the format, the active, the dose, the first-run quantity and the pack, and the quote comes within 24 hours, Monday to Friday, with a price for that quantity and for a larger one.
What is the minimum order I can start with?
PharmaEurope starts white label on a ready-made formula from 100 units. Your own formula starts from 500 bottles per product for capsules and tablets, and powders and sachets from 300 kg of finished blend.
Does a larger order change the unit price?
Yes. Order size moves the unit price, which is why PharmaEurope quotes 500 bottles and 5,000 bottles separately. Ask for both quantities in the same quote.
Does a bigger order take longer to produce?
No. At PharmaEurope a larger batch runs on the same line and takes about the same time: from 2 weeks on a ready-made formula and from 4 weeks on your own.
Is label design included in the price?
Yes. PharmaEurope designs and prints the label and packaging at the plant in English and French with any order, priced in the same quote as manufacturing. Nothing is printed until you approve the final artwork.
Are three flavours priced as one product?
No. At PharmaEurope the minimum applies per product: three flavours of the same protein are three products, and each one is blended separately and carries its own minimum.
Is there duty on EU-made supplements entering Canada?
It depends on the tariff line. In the CBSA Customs Tariff 2026, tariff item 2106.90.99 carries a 10.5% MFN rate and is Free at the CETA-EU rate for goods that meet the rules of origin. Your customs broker confirms the line, and you discuss the CETA origin statement with PharmaEurope at the quote.
Who holds the NPN?
Your brand holds the product licence and its NPN. PharmaEurope supplies the specification, the Certificate of Analysis and copies of the site certificates that the licence holder and the importer work from.
Does changing a ready-made formula add cost?
Yes. Adjusting a catalogue formula means a new trial and new documentation, so PharmaEurope quotes it against your quantity. Every change goes through a sample before production.
Can I see a sample before paying for a batch?
Yes. PharmaEurope sends samples of existing products to companies seriously considering an order, so you can check the product, the pack and the label first.
