Private label vitamin D
PharmaEurope manufactures private label vitamin D supplements in Europe, at the plant in Mārupe, Latvia, under ISO 22000:2018, GMP and HACCP. Ten ready-made vitamin D formulas are in production: D3 softgels from 2,000 to 5,000 IU, D3 with K2 in softgels, tablets and effervescent tubes, liposomal D3 capsules and a vegan D3 from algae. Any of them can carry your label.
In short: vitamin D is the simplest product to launch and the easiest to get the dose wrong on. The standard run is 500 bottles per product (softgels 500 pcs), selected ready-made formulas start from 100 units, and every dose is checked against the EU upper level and the destination country’s list before the batch is planned. Production takes 4 to 8 weeks.

Doses are given in IU and micrograms, because EU labels declare micrograms and most buyers think in IU: 1 µg = 40 IU, so 1,000 IU is 25 µg, 2,000 IU is 50 µg, 4,000 IU is 100 µg.

Vitamin D also sits inside calcium formulas (calcium 450 mg + D3 5 µg; calcium, magnesium, zinc + D3; two effervescent calcium + D3), the Omega-3 Premium softgel (2,000 IU D3 with K2 and E), and several immune, multivitamin and fertility complexes. Which dose you can sell, and where
Vitamin D is the one supplement where the label dose is a regulatory decision before it is a marketing one.
- The EU reference value is 5 µg (200 IU) a day. A 2,000 IU softgel therefore declares 1,000% of the nutrient reference value on the label, and that figure has to be printed, not rounded away.
- EFSA’s tolerable upper intake level for adults is 100 µg, that is 4,000 IU a day. Our 4,000 IU formulas sit exactly at it; the 5,000 IU softgel sits above it, which several Member States do not allow in a food supplement. Before a batch is planned we check the dose against the destination country’s maximum, and where 5,000 IU is not permitted we quote the 4,000 IU formula instead.
- The source matters for the diet claim. Standard D3 (cholecalciferol) is extracted from lanolin, so a softgel in olive oil is not vegan; the algae-derived D3V® is, and it carries a vegan label without an asterisk.
- Softgel oil is a choice, not a detail. Olive and safflower carriers are what the ready-made softgels use; a customer who wants MCT or a specific oil is looking at a custom formula and the softgel minimum that comes with it.
What a vitamin D label may say in the EU
Vitamin D has more authorised health claims than almost any other nutrient, which is why it sells on its own without a blend around it.
Under Regulation (EC) 1924/2006 and the list in Regulation (EU) 432/2012, a product that is a source of vitamin D (at least 0.75 µg per daily dose) may state that vitamin D contributes to the normal absorption and utilisation of calcium and phosphorus, to normal blood calcium levels, to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth, to the maintenance of normal muscle function, to the normal function of the immune system, and has a role in the process of cell division. Two further claims are authorised under Article 14: the immune claim for children, and a claim on reducing the risk of falling for people over sixty at 20 µg a day. Every ready-made formula above clears the source condition by a wide margin.
What the label may not say is anything about deficiency treatment, mood, weight or disease. We check the artwork against the authorised wording before it goes to print; the label itself is the brand owner’s responsibility under Regulation (EU) 1169/2011.
Two ways to start, and what the pack does to the price
Ready-made, your label
Pick a dose and a format from the ten, choose the bottle count, send the artwork. The standard run is 500 bottles per product, 500 pcs for a softgel; selected formulas in stock packaging qualify for a first run from 100 units. Nothing is formulated or trialled from scratch.
Your own formula
A different dose, D3 with K2 at your ratio, a combination with magnesium or omega-3, a chewable for children. Tablets and capsules run at the standard minimum; a custom softgel is quoted from 1,000,000 capsules because of the shape-specific tooling, which is why most brands pick a ready-made softgel and put the difference into the label.
Packs
Bottles of 30, 60, 90 or 120; a 60-count of a daily softgel is two months and the usual pharmacy size, 120 is the online size. Effervescent D3 goes in tubes of 20 with a desiccant cap. Blister and carton are possible and carry the packaging supplier’s own minimum.
About private label vitamin D
What is the minimum order for private label vitamin D?
The standard minimum is 500 bottles per product for tablets and capsules and 500 pcs for a ready-made softgel; effervescent D3 is quoted by tube count with a low minimum order. Selected ready-made formulas in stock packaging qualify for a first run from 100 units. A custom softgel shape is quoted from 1,000,000 capsules.
Which doses of vitamin D3 do you make?
Ready-made: 400 IU (with K1 and K2), 1,000 IU vegan from algae, 2,000 IU, 4,000 IU and 5,000 IU, plain or with K2. In micrograms that is 10, 25, 50, 100 and 125 µg. Other doses are a custom formula.
Is 5,000 IU legal in the EU?
There is no single EU maximum for vitamin D in food supplements; each Member State sets its own. EFSA’s tolerable upper intake level for adults is 100 µg (4,000 IU) a day, and several countries cap supplements at or below it, so a 5,000 IU product cannot be sold everywhere. We check your destination market before the batch is planned and quote 4,000 IU where 5,000 is not allowed.
Do you have a vegan vitamin D?
Yes: the effervescent D3V® 1,000 IU uses D3 from algae and is vegan; the K1 + K2 + D3 400 IU tablet is vegan too. The softgels use standard D3 from lanolin in olive or safflower oil, so they are neither vegan nor vegetarian; the liposomal D3 capsule and the D3 + K2 tablet are vegetarian.
Why combine vitamin D with K2?
Because both carry authorised bone claims and buyers ask for the pair: vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal bones, vitamin K to the maintenance of normal bones and to normal blood clotting. Four of the ten ready-made formulas pair them, at 2,000 IU + 75 µg K2 or 4,000 IU + 100 µg K2, in softgel, tablet or effervescent form.
What can the label claim?
The authorised EU wording: vitamin D contributes to normal absorption of calcium and phosphorus, to normal blood calcium levels, to the maintenance of normal bones, teeth and muscle function, to the normal function of the immune system, and has a role in cell division. Deficiency, mood or disease wording is not authorised. We check the artwork against the list before print.
How is the label dose declared?
In micrograms with the percentage of the nutrient reference value, which for vitamin D is 5 µg. A 2,000 IU softgel is declared as 50 µg and 1,000% NRV; IU may be added alongside. We supply the nutrient declaration with the specification so the artwork starts from the right numbers.
How long does a vitamin D order take?
4 to 8 weeks from approval of the formula and the artwork. Ready-made softgels are the fastest route because the shell, the oil and the stability data already exist; a custom dose in a tablet or capsule adds the trial batch before that window starts.
What is the shelf life?
24 months as standard, stated on the specification. Vitamin D3 is stable in an oil-filled softgel and in a tablet; the effervescent tube relies on its desiccant cap, which is why tubes are not to be decanted into other packs.
Do you ship vitamin D outside the EU?
Yes, EXW Mārupe by default, FCA or DAP on request, with the specification, Certificate of Analysis and site certificate copies the local filing needs. Dose limits differ outside the EU as well, so tell us the destination when you ask for the quote.
